Binding is designed to protect the edges of your guitar from damage, over the years it has also become a decorative feature of some where shell and inlays are located, it can be an opportunity for a builder to express themselves.
Occasionally you have to replace binding or you may be fitting binding to a freshly built guitar. The binding on this guitar needs to be replaced, so its all prepared and ready to be bound
Time to repair approx 2 hrs over 2 days (glue drying times)
A nice selection of Martin Binding.
We start by taping the flat strip in place.
All the way around the perimeter and lightly taped and trimmed,
Using aheat gun, we set the binding to a shape.
Removing the tape, you can see the binding has held some of the guitars form.
Duco cement I find works best..
Push some cement into the cleaned recess..
Spread it thin using finger.
This first step, I have started tute from, it assumes the binding has been removed and surface prepared.
If not please use associated link.
