To clean the edges of the binding up to a similiar height of the guitar, we use a plain razor blade.
And the back.
One of the issues with nitro finished guitar, is the tape residue can eat into the finish.
Here is an up close area of the tape marks.
Wet sand with 1000 grit sandpaper and dishwashing liquid to remove.
Sometimes unfortunatley the tape imprint marks go to the base of the finish, like this area as shown
Bit of colour matching and rub some stain into the wood
Follow up colour and clear coats
Allow to dry overnight.
Once all located, allow to dry for 24hrs.
Removing the tape, we have one freshly glued section of binding.
Scrape the binding to height on the sides, using the soft pads of the finger as your guide.
This is a satin finish, so we deshine and clean
Dont get carried away on the finish unless its a new guitar, we want our work to blend into the existing colours of the guitar
No customer wants their 20yr old guitar to have satin worn sides and a high gloss mirror finish back.
Work the binding into place section by section
Job done.
