Checking neck angle, a straight edge comes up to just below the top of the bridge, so angle is good.
Inside the guitar is a plaque showing serial number and model
We need to remove the plaque as the bolt is underneath.
Bit of prying and it comes free
One single bolt, if you had tried to take the neck off without removing this, you would have snapped the neck in two pieces.
Just a screwdriver
To weaken the extension, we use a large aluminium heatsink.
Get the aluminium to around 80 degrees celcius and let it soak for about 20 minutes.
The neck has lifted partially from the body, so the bolt is holding the joint but the glue has failed.
Always remove strings and pins.
Protect the guitar top with some tape.
With a spatula we start to work the glue join.
Acoustic guitars will need their neck removed at some stage during their lifetime, some manufacturers use a bolt on neck process rather than a glued joint, two of the most well known commercial Manufacturers that do this are Taylor and Martin
.
This walk through is on the Martin Bolt on neck, it is a partial bolt on, it is more a WARNING as Martin utilises Glue and a Bolt
Time to carry out approx 2-3 hrs
Attached link shows all steps for removing a set neck, this one, as the glue joint is broken will skip a couple of steps such as steaming the dovetail and pressing the neck off.
