Placing the ruler onto the body join
Our heel length is 77mm (Hl).
Our initial string height 3.04mm (Si)
Feed that into out formula and we have a measurement of 0.55mm, so we need to cut our heel this amount on the base section only
Another Guitar
You can also do the calculation without a set of strings fitted
Adjust truss rod for straight
Rest the end of the ruler onto the bridge
Measure the gap under the steel ruler above the 12th fret, here I am using feeler gauges, this measurement is my (Si) string Initial, my desired (Sg) is 0mm or flat on the frets.
Back to our tute.
Remove strings
This is our pivot point, a neck reset is about this relationship
The locking method eg, bolts, dovetail, mortise and tenon, fretboard extension, has nothing to do with neck resetting, they are the means of locking the neck to the body.
So back to our formula
We have a distance of 278mm to the bridge (Bl)
Remove neck
At the bridge we have 628mm, so pretty close to the 24.75 inch scale this guitar is
I tape the heel of my removed neck for reference
Set of calipers with our formula measurement.
