Backs warp, get smashed, come loose and all sorts of reasons exist to replace an Acoustic Back..

In this instance the guitar was stolen and then dumped out in the open and got a little smashed up, we are going to remove the existing back, rebuild what is left, fabricate a new back based on the manufacturers measurements and design constraints.

Time to repair approx 10 hrs over 10 days (glue drying times)
The binding is then removed from around the edge, the binding can be removed before pulling the back should one choose too.
The old back was 2.86mm thick, we respect the manufacturers design and copy it the best we can
Two pieces of nice quarter sawn Maple.
Using a shooting board, we get our edges clean and straight
Thickness each half to an approximate size a little over what we need
Then join with Titebond glue and allow to dry overnight
Just a snap shot, I like to store partial work away so it does not get damaged, here the joined wood is returned to the toolboard
We need to make a body caul to hold the sides in shape.
We remove the remnants of the back, trying our best to keep the kerfing in good condition.
Once all the back is removed, clean up inside and any small noted issues you may find
Any loose kerfing is reglued and allowed to dry overnight.
We apply some cardboard to the top and trace it out with a razor blade
