Some shade cloth to allow the vacuum to pull down evenly over all surfaces
My vacuum unit is a commercial grade model, with reserve air tanks, two stage pump etc, one can use a way smaller model than this.
Opening the valve to draw vacuum from around the bridge
And the bridge is pulled down firmly, you can see the ripples of the shade cloth as well.
The vacuum is so great, you can lift the guitar with ease from the plate alone.
After 30 minutes vacuum, we remove the jig.
Hide glue gels in 45 seconds and cures in a few hrs, with vacuum it removes the air from within the glue and you can string it up within an hr.
Remove shade cloth.
Wipe surface around bridge with wet warm cloth to clean any residual glue clean up.
Fit pins and strings
Fresh hide glue, hide glue is one of the strongest glues around, however, it has a working life of around 45 seconds, if we were to try and clamp the bridge in place with conventional throat clamps it would have already cured before we could get the first clamp on.
Hide glue on, pins locate the bridge to the top..
Vacuum plate on.
Tune to pitch
We fit two cut down bridge pins, these are to help locate the bridge when its being clamped down
The pins should be just long enough to locate into the soundboard..
