Guitars have straps attached to them for comfort of playing, most manufacturers fit these prior to leaving the factory, sometimes however they are not.

Nice new guitar body that needs some strap buttons fitted

Time to repair approx 30 minutes
Also the front needs a strap button as well, so repeat
So I mark 22 mm in from each side of the body
Repeat
I have a nice plastic template I use when setting necks, so I am using it to locate the rear strap button
Its attached to the neck and centerlines over the body.
Then place reference mark on my tape in relation to the jig center line.
For the front, I mark 75mm up from the neck (3 inches approx)
And mark down the side
Nice guitar, no strap buttons
Always protect the paint from your markings and potential paint damage.

Simple masking tape is sufficient so long as its not being left on the guitar for more than an hr.
With a ruler, we identify its approx. 44mm thick.
The area between the threads of my screw is 2.6mm
