Aftermarket machine heads come in all forms and sizes, some require modification of the instrument to fit.
In this instance we are fitting a set of locking sperzels to a fender neck
Time to modify approx 1 hr
Different Neck
Check the fit of the sperzel in the mounting hole, if required ream the hole larger to accomodate the body of the tuner.
Plug and fill them with wood dowels and titebond glue, before proceeding.
Fitting the tuner is not hard, its just about laying a template out.
I attach some masking tape over the holes to start.
Pen a straight line down the outside of the holes
With a ruler split the distance between the two lines
Repeat other end
Connect the lines, this is the line we will be drilling on.
The distance between the body and the pin is 6.27mm
Sperzels have a single mount lug.
This lug locks the machine head in place to minimise rotation
One brand new Fender Neck
Different Neck
Sometimes many many holes have been previously drilled.
Using that measurement, I mark the centre line out from the hole.
