Cello necks, Violin necks, Bass necks need to be removed and refitted on the odd occasions, whether it be from a failed glue joint to an incorrectly set neck angle
This Cello has a bad neck angle, so we are going to remove the neck, set the new angle, refit the neck.
Time to repair approx 2 hrs over 2 days (glue drying times)
To remove the neck we use heated spatulas and steam
With a simple steam nozzle, we work all surfaces, the actual joint is a tenon joint, so nothing complicated.
Heat the sides
Top to bottom
Using a heated spatula again, we work the glue joints
Once the glue joints have been seperated with the spatula, the neck comes upwards and out
Simple tapered tenon style neck socket.
With our steamer, we clean up all surfaces of old glue.
Start with removing the strings / bridge and tailpiece
The button at the base of the neck is actually part of the back, its a very important part structurally.
Using a heated spatula we work the glue joint holding the button at the base of the heel until the spatula goes fully internally.
Clean / steam and scrape
