Braces are used to add strength to an area without making it to strong, acoustic tops have bracings which allow them to act like a trampoline and backs have bracings to create a firm structure to resist string tension collapsing the top.

In this instance the instrument has suffered some damage and the brace is gone, we are going to fabricate a new brace utilizing the other braces as our point of reference

Time to repair approx 2 hrs over 2 days (glue drying times)
With a mirror we can see a glue line where a brace use to be but is no longer there
Start by placing a wet cloth into the guitar
We clamp it onto the broken piece of wood for approx. 30 minutes
With a small spatula blade heated to 60 degrees celcius in a water bath
We slip it under the brace, the soaking of the brace in water allows it to conduct heat when the spatula is applied
Broken bit removed.
Some 220 grit sandpaper to clean the old glue off.
By feel we clean the surface
Nice Classical Guitar with a high action
Taping the strings out of the way so we access the inside to inspect for any damage.
In one corner the remnants of a broken brace
With a mirror check your work, continue until all glue has been removed
