With a rasp, we rough shape the neck, this is to make sure when we string it up, it is not being reliant on the excess wood for strength before we shape and finish paint
Refit the repaired truss rod
Drill holes to fit existing machine heads
Fit Machine heads
Tune to pitch and then a bit more
I allow the headstock to sit strung up over tuned for 3 days prior to commencing any finish work
We remove strings and clean headstock truss rod access.
Sanded smooth, we need to block this end as the truss rod is dual acting, so it needs a solid surface to push up against
I pocket the face of the truss rod hole for fitment of new truss rod, I will revers cap this after installment.
Like so
Rough shaped
Some spare wood turned into a round insert
24hrs later, remove clamps.
Insert trimmed down and titebond used to glue in place
Clamp and allow to dry for 24hrs
