Jazz guitars require you to do any wiring through the F holes, sometimes customers want better access.
This guitar, the customer wants a wiring compartment access panel fitted, this will allow them to carry out all the wiring they want to do with relative ease. The goal is always to make any mod to make it look like something that left the factory.
Time to repair approx 2 hrs over 2 days (glue drying times)
Normally I use low tack tape (Big roll), in this scenario I want tape that has good grip power, this allows me to route through the tape and retain any paint chips that may happen.
Fit a 1/4 spade bit to a drill.
Drill through each switch control location.
Until they come out the back.
No point putting a cavity in, if it does not cover the area needed.
I draw up a rough template design onto the guitar.
Transfer this onto a big piece of 6mm thick MDF, large enough to be able to clamp on the corners.
With a 1/2 spade bit, I create a starter hole for my router.
In the router I use a shortened end bit.
Top view of this Ibanez Artcore, traditionally all wiring is done through the F Holes.

Taped up like so.
Route the perimeter in 1mm depth of cut passes at a time, this is 5mm thick so that is 5 passes.
