Factory fitted tremelos are good, but aftermarket Floyd Roses are a desired fitment by many players.
This guitar is fitted with a factory Floating Trem, we are going to retrofit it with a Floyd Rose unit, Floyd roses also come with a locking nut, the locking nut wont be fitted on this one as the customer has decided to fit Sperzel locking tuners instead.
Time to carry out approx 2 hrs
I apply tape around the original trem and mark out the intonation points that exist for my E strings.
Reference marks fitted.
Floyd Roses have full details and templates of their units, here I have marked out the details onto the top of the guitar.
The Floyd is sat into the existing Trem cavity and compared against the markings.
Not too happy with the layout, so I am also going to trace around the supplied Floyd unit.
Here is my tracing in purple against the manufacturers template in black
So fresh tape.
And a compromise of the two layouts.
Sitting the Floyd in place, nicer fit up IMO.
Job Description - Fit this.
So we start by stripping the guitar of its strings and pickguard.
Straight edge down the centreline of the guitar.
To do the routing, I am going to use an overhead router.
