Unlike a guitar, the saddle on an instrument from the violin family sits at the very back of the instrument and allows the tailpiece to ride over the edge
This particular saddle is broken, it has more to do with the height of the saddle rather than instrument damage.
Time to repair approx 1 hr
When strung up, it wont hold intonation, the rear saddle is breaking away from the instrument.
It hasbeen repaired a few times as well, bit of a mess happening
I am going to remove the old saddle and clean all the glue up with a steam cleaner.
The current saddle is 20mm high
Using heat and steam, we soften the glue bond
With a thin palette knife, we stretch that glue bond
All available points get worked.
Until it comes free.
We start with removing strings/bridge and tailpiece
The original saddle is pictured here with tailpiece still in place
That is a seriously high saddle, typically 6mm height is more than sufficient, not 20mm
With a chisel, scrape and smooth the surface for preperation of a new saddle.
