Not only does lutherie require us to be capable of working with wood, in todays modern age we also need to be fluent or adequate in Cad drawing.
Cad drawings allow us to plan and design a custom build before we begin and / or it allows us to use our drawings to talk with Cnc machines.
In this instance we are going to make a Custom LH 8 String guitar.
Time to design approx 1 hr
Using our E marks on the nut, we draw outer string lines connecting our nut to our bridge.
Fret positions ovelayed on our neck.
We then offset our E strings by 3mm so we can create the edge of the neck and trim our fret locations to size.
Draw a headstock.
Draw a body to suit.
Place in some pickups.
We then mirror the body and flip it..
Remove all the top configuration.
Draw a nut and some inner lines 3mm from the edge of the nut, these are our E strings.
Using a custom scale length, in this situation we want a 27 inch scale.
We place a bridge approx 27 inches away from the nut.
Then we need to overaly some fret positions, using the standard 12th root of 2 formula, we can place our frets.
There are also calculators on the internet that do this mathematics part for you.
Add in a wiring compartment.
Job Finished
We start with a simple straight line.
