Wing Joint Tenon Replacement
Broken Tenon, its happens more times than one would think it does
Ream the drilled bore to a smooth surface
Trim the lining down to thesame dimensions as the broken section, in this case it was 20mm external
We repeat the process with the maple tenon itself
Ream to a 20mm internal size to match our liner
Apply a bonding glue
Then using the lathes cross slide, press the liner home
After 24 hrs dry time we start shaping the replacement tenon
Utilising the broken section we can mark out the cork location etc
Then we machine away
Test fit the boot joint
Once happy with fitment, part the piece off the lathe
Test fit into the wing joint
Then clamp and glue for 24hrs
The original tenon had a cap, so we manufacture a replacement one
With a Bassoon Reamer, we taper the inner bore
Parted off
Epoxy into place for 24 hrs

Wing Joint Tenon
Replacement

On the broken tenon section you can also see this bore is a lined bore, that is a rubber or abs material exists internal to the wood tenon itself
We start by removing the broken tenon and counterboring the instrument
I start the repair by making the replacement lining

Drill to rough size
