Small hand tool to hand cut the threads
We undercut the back of the thread so the rod mates up squarely to the post
Test fit
With a jewellers file, lightly cut the excess from both ends of the rod
The 1-72 fits the post thread nicely
Up close of the 1-72 new thread
The 1-72 needs to be 73 thou wide, we grind the rod from 88 thou down to 73 thou

Test fit and one new fitted rod
Refit the side Bb key
The swedging collet clamps over an exposed key end
You tighten the handle and it squeezes over the whole exposed hinge tubes length
We walk the key out by moving it backwards and forwards and this removes the gap between the Hinge tube and Rod screw
Face the ends of the Hinge Tube

The process has fitted the key nicely to the new rod, it has also lengthened the key
Again we face the ends of the hinge tube, we also face the mounting posts on the saxophone

Add a slot to the head makes it finally a Rod screw
Type 7 Repair, a repair where we have a Rod screw inside a Hinge tube, the rod is loose in the hinge tubing
The difference between this repair and Repair 4 is the use of a tool called a swedging collet rather than swedging pliers
Refit the side Bb key
This key also needs a new rod as per Type 6 Repair
The key is loose on the Rod screw.
