Damaged bottom
While the base is removed we use a ball to reshape the damaged port
The outside is polished on a buffer, and ready to be refitted.

The bottom is bored out

A holder is made for the piston on the lathe
Inner port is chemically cleaned
A new cap is fabricated out of brass
Parted and removed
First example:
This piston has a hole punched through the bottom, it appears to be in the shape of a screwdriver slot

Fit and solder the new machined cap
We repair the torn port with a patch internally and soft solder it in place
